An Update May 22, 2006
Got my ass handed to me at the March IRCC autocross. Jorge made his return following an Evo school and a National Tour event, and we also had a Mini Cooper S running in STX. My recollection is that I was about a second behind the Mini, which isn’t too bad really, but Jorge was several seconds ahead.
Some other Subie guys thought that I looked good out there but my times weren’t backing up their observations. Truth is, near the edge of control looks fast but smooth runs are what produce the best times. Tires / traction are still messing me up and the cool weather wasn’t helping — on one side my tires only gained 3PSI after a run, on the other they gained nothing. I’m also overdue for suspension updates.
The April event went a bit better. I still got creamed but only by a second or so.
I skipped the May event as it fell on Mother’s Day and I procrastinated on buying presents.
And I’ve got the ‘97 M3 back. It’s been sitting in my driveway since about two weeks before the weather started getting warm. Hopefully tomorrow morning I’ll have time to get it to the mechanic for a tune-up, brakes, A/C, and a bunch of nit-picky things. I drove it to work a couple of times while the weather was nice, and as much fun as that car still is, I’m ready to move on. It’s sale will help finance some big power upgrades on the Saabaru…
