Words that you never want to hear May 23, 2007
It’s not going to be a happy conversation when, after exchanging pleasantries, your mechanic asks if you are sitting down.
Zero compression on three cylinders.
Looks like I may be getting the chance to try out those Brian Crower cams after all…
Update: Labor: $1800. Wiseco pistons w/ rings: $500-something. Plus the overbore costs. And I don’t get paid again until next Thursday. Fuck me.
Autoblog’s New Look
Looks like Autoblog is in the process of updating their appearance. The new look is hot!
On a roll… May 12, 2007
Dad & Wife #2 are laid up in the hospital. Tire blow-out followed by a roll-over. I told him that sounds like how I’ll end up going and he’s way too old for that kind of crap. “I wasn’t driving” was his reply. He had the misfortune of having his arm hanging out the window, which ended up with the car’s roof resting not-so-gently on top of it. Messed up shoulder, broken upper arm and wrist, assorted scrapes and bruises. He’ll need surgery for the shoulder but at 67 years old (and having had a quintuple bypass in ‘02) the doctors want to wait a while first.
She took an airbag to the face, could barely talk, and broke quite a few ribs. At the hospital last night was probably the first time in years that she’s not been unhappy to see me (tip: avoid fooling around with the step-mom’s “baby” sister, no matter how hot she is, but if you must, do not get caught!). May have just been the drugs…
Both looked pretty rough but should be ok, eventually.
The good, the bad, and the ugly May 7, 2007
The good: Picked the car up this evening. Sounds good, pulls hard, and no more exhaust fumes coming in through the A/C vents.
The bad: Over-boosts practically on-demand in 5th gear, managed to do it once in 4th too. Still a fair amount of smoke exiting the exhaust.
The ugly: New Apexi GT Spec cat-back is melting my rear bumper.
Will have to watch for oil consumption over the next two weeks but it seems to be in good enough condition for the 5/20 autocross at Homestead. With the IRCC and Hialeah sites no longer available and Karts monopolizing Homestead this may be my last shot at cone carving for a while.
Hard to believe that it’s been eight months since this disaster started…
